Booking Flights + Travel Timing
Airport:
Please book your flight into Mexico City International Airport (MEX) — not Toluca.
Arrival:
We recommend arriving between 2:00–6:00 PM on Tuesday, October 28th. This gives you time to settle in before our welcome drinks and snacks at 6:45 PM, followed by a special dinner at Rosetta at 8:00 PM.
If you need to arrive earlier or later, no worries. I’ll be on the ground and can help coordinate your arrival.
Traveling from Monterey or Carmel?
If you're based in the Monterey/Carmel area and want to skip the shuttle to San Jose or SFO, American Airlines offers a flight that departs MRY around 6:00 AM, connects in Phoenix, and gets you into Mexico City around 3:30 PM. Perfect timing for our first evening together.
Departure:
Our final (optional) event will be the Día de los Muertos parade in the city center on Saturday, November 1st. While the city has not yet officially confirmed the date, it traditionally takes place that day.
We recommend booking an afternoon or evening flight on November 1st so you have time to enjoy the festivities before heading home.
Want to stay longer?
The accommodation is offering our group a discounted rate of $425 per apartment for Saturday night (November 1st) if you'd like to stay and explore on your own through Sunday. Just let me know and I will hold those spots with the manager for you.
Packing & Travel Preparation Checklist
It’s a good idea to contact your mobile phone provider before departure to confirm or activate an international plan — this helps avoid surprise roaming charges.
Health & Wellness
Personal medications and supplements (bring enough for your full stay, including any prescriptions)
Hydration support – electrolytes like Liquid I.V. or Nuun are especially helpful at high altitude
High-SPF sunscreen – the sun in Mexico City is strong due to the elevation
Sun protection accessories: sunglasses, wide-brimmed hat or cap
Proactive Gut Health Tip:
Let’s talk about the elephant in the (bath)room — Montezuma’s Revenge. This colorfully named condition is a common case of traveler’s stomach, usually caused by unfamiliar bacteria in food or water. It tends to pop up when visiting developing countries, especially where produce may be washed in tap water. While typically mild, on a shorter trip it would be a shame to lose a day to discomfort. Megan follows a pre-travel probiotic routine and brings papaya enzymes (available at Whole Foods).
And rest assured — we have a trusted local doctor in Mexico City available to assist with any medical needs, including prescriptions, if necessary.
Packing Essentials
Comfortable walking shoes
Casual daywear (breathable fabrics)
A dressy outfit for special evenings (there is no dress code)
Lightweight jacket or sweater — evenings can be cooler
Dress in layers – weather can shift quickly; brief afternoon rain showers are common but usually short-lived
Sun protection – sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen
Reusable water bottle - we’ll supply filtered water
Small day bag – fanny pack, crossbody, or compact backpack for outings or market finds
Travel-size toiletries
Phone charger and necessary cables (portable battery optional) No adapter needed! Mexico uses the same Type A & B outlets as the U.S.
Ceremonial items – If you’d like to participate in our ofrenda (altar) experience, feel free to bring printed photos, small trinkets, or handwritten notes in memory of loved ones or cherished pets. These personal tokens will be placed at community altars as part of our collective moment of reflection and remembrance.
It means the world to have you on this journey with us.
We’ll be in touch in the next few weeks with a little sneak peek at the itinerary, but just know that everything is coming together in ways
that are beyond even our dreams. We can’t wait to share it all with you.
Happy packing. ¡Nos vemos pronto!
